So, I had a bomb dropped on me today that made me quite upset. I pulled myself together though, and am figuring out a plan of attack.

I was perusing one of my favorite blogs a little while after this happened, and I decided that I felt like posting about something that makes me happy: cupcakes.

I think my crush on cupcakes, or cuppycakes as I like to call them, really went into overdrive when I went to visit a friend in NYC in October. We discovered that the Ritz was doing a high tea style serving Saturday afternoons through October. Um, we were so there. The experience was quite delightful, daaaahlings. And as you can see, all evidence disappeared rather quickly.

Before I left for NYC, I looked up the Ritz here in Boston to see if they had the same event happening. Lo and behold! They did! So what did I do? Make plans with friends to go to another cuppycake tea, the weekend after my NYC trip. Naturally. The decor was more modern, and the cuppycakes served were different than the ones we had in NYC. Win!

Wow. I haven't been here in a looooong time. Call it bordeom, lack of inspiration, loss of interest, etc. The point is, I wasn't feeling the blog thing. I didn't want to post, or force myself to post, when I felt I had nothing of consequence.

It's now 2010. The end of a decade and the beginning of a new one. The idea for a Project 365 is nothing new in the photography world. I've come across many who do it, but always thought I'd lose interest quickly, forget to take photos for a couple days, and the project would fall apart.

A couple Twitter friends have decided to start their own Project 365's this year, and I figured, why not? I'll give it a go. It'll get me to pick up my camera more, something I've let go recently. I just got this fun instant film camera by Fuji that prints credit card sized prints. I'll be using that, as well as my digital SLR. If other fun options come along during the year (I really want a Holga, pinhole, etc.), you'll be seeing those, too. Check out The Kitchenette for more foodie related photos. She's a Twitter buddy who makes me hungry! Haha. Wish us luck!

Fall Love

I love Fall. I love the crispness in the air. The way the air smells. The smell of burning leaves when people are trying to clean up their yards. So, of course, it being the long Memorial Day weekend, my friend dragged me to the Outlets to do a little shoppy shop tody. And, of course, I was more than willing. Been spending a bit more lately, but I'm in the safe zone financially right now, so I am justifying it. Of course. ;-) And I took quite a nice haul today, too. I'm venturing outside Anthro & JCrew! Shocker! Oh, and please excuse my crappy photos. I was trying to get these while there was still natural light, but that was fading fast.

I LUV these. Didn't give them a first look, but then did a double-take when someone was trying them on. They fulfill my fashion-forward side and are so comfy! I'll probably add an insert to increase the comfort, and there's plenty of room to do so. I got my normal 9 1/2 but could have sized down a half size; however, there were none in that size. These also came in a dark brown color.

LUV these, too! I eyed them pretty quickly as they remind me completely of a designer I love, Chie Mihara. I have several pairs of her shoes, but they do run pretty expensive. These are very much in the same vain, but a whole lot less money!! Win!! They did not have my size, but I got these in a 9 and they feel fine, especially since they're sandals. The strap is a little different, too, as it loops through and then to the back to notch.

Now, I've been on the fence about Maxi dresses since they became "in" a few seasons ago. I am tall, but I didn't think I could pull one off wihtout looking preggers. I was wrong. You just have to find the right style for you. Plus, I'm not exactly small on top so I needed adequate coverage, but still able to go sans bra if I needed to. This one fits all my criteria. Summer, jersey, comfy loveliness. All sorts of WIN. I wanted this dress where the pattern was more black near the top, but they didn't have it in my size. C'est la vie.

Now, this. This is a definite contender for the wedding. It's jersey, but a bit more fancy with the silk print detail going on. It's a halter, but the cups have light padding, so I'd be fine there. The back is completely open, but it being a Maxi dress, I wouldn't feel too exposed. I can get away with wearing flat sandals, too, because it's not super long. In short, WIN. And it's reeeally pweeetty. :-)

They're people who worked on The Cake Eaters giving some really nice interviews on why Kristen is so amazing! I knew that! I have yet to see the movie, but it's sitting in my Netflix Queue.

Anthro Review

Wow! Two posts in just a few days! I'm awesome! :-P

I figured I'd at least get an Anthropologie review of the recent items I bought up for you to read. The eBay stuff, well, that's just getting pushed back. Again. Hey, I told you I was (see right) ----> lazy & a procrastinator. No lie. We had a house/name (bday) party yesterday so my day was taken up with cleaning and prepping and a Target run and then, the party! It was superfantastical. We campfired with Polish kielbasa (the real stuff, not the American grocery store kind) and made s'mores. Drinks were flowing. I could have sat out there until the sun came up. But I didn't. The stupid thundershowers that we thought we escaped finally shoved all the remaining party stragglers inside. Where some proceeded to have a Mario Kart tournement. Wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii!!!!! Haha. I stayed up suuuuuuuuuuuuper duuuuuuuuuuuper laaaaaaaaaaaate. Go. Me. And then today was Mother's Day, but nothing went on around here. I'm just (see right) -------> lazy. Found some of my spring/summer boxes that are still hiding in the basement from the move, so I was semi-productive there. I was pulling stuff out and it was like presents to myself all over again: "Oh, hi! Anthro shirt that I totes forgot I have. Yay! I'm totes gonna wear you tomorrow!" And so on and so forth.

And so!! On with the reviews!!

Item #1: Afternoon At Ease Dress

I had a hell of a time finding a pic-y for this. I literally just bought these items last week, and the dress is already gone from the site! Poof! That's what happens when Anthro items go on sale, and that's why I snatched it up right away! I had to Google that sh*t just to find it so I could show you all! Anyway, I luvs this dress. It's by Splendid and all their stuff is comfy, jersey, modal, and fabulous-fitting. I got it in black (avail. in fuschia, too) because of the versatility. I was thinking I might wear this to a wedding I have this summer. It's a morning wedding in Maine, and I want to be comfy all day so I'm thinking of jazzing it up with some fun summery accessories, funky flat sandals or the silver not-so-high heeled sandals I got from JCrew a couple years ago (and have yet to wear!). Did a test run today and it just might work. Keeping my options open though. Of course. ;-)

Item #2: Bud-to-Bloom Dress

I bought this at full price, my darlings. Yes. I know. I'm trying to be good. But honestly, I've been doing very good with my shopping restrictions. My bank account is a little fuller every time I get paid compared to bare bones if I go on a mini spending spree. See! Really good! Srsly though, I had started to lust after this dress a few weeks ago when I tried it on in store. It may seem simple, but the details are super cute and just so Anthro. I'm into versatility in my pieces (who isn't with this economy?) so this is a perfect casual dress that can be businessed-up for work when I need to "dress up" for clients (which I totally did the day after I got this dress b/c, coincidentally, we had a client-type-person come in) or dolled-up for a night out. I likes it. Even against my paler than pale skin, I still look grrrrreat!

Item #3: Brewed Bean Shell

Me likey a lot. This top is by Fei, which I love. I bought a really pretty semi-sheery tank a couple seasons ago and realized later, like I am realizing with a lot of clothes of mine, that I was buying the wrong size in a lot of things. I love it! It makes me feel like I lost weight/shrunk, when I most likely haven't. Just hiding from the world before, I guess. No longer! Showing the curves! Anyway, so this was another try on in the store and it fit GREAT. I had some self-control so I didn't buy it. I did buy it with my online purchase last week along with the 2 dresses above. I think it's the same size I tried on, and yet, it feels a little snug. Weird. Going to head to the store to try on another in the same size, and if that fails me, try to get the next size up. I no likey doing that. Otherwise, I really luvs this blouse. It's super comfy and light. Great to dress up or down. Win!!

Just wanted to pop onto, um, my own blog for once to let people know: I'm Not Dead. I've just been busy being involved in the Twi-sites of late. And I don't think you want me posting all about Twilight and the actors and the movies, etc. You can clicky on one of the Twi-links I have at right ---------> for all that shite.

Just want to say, I heart my followers. Some are from the fashiony blogs I visit, like JCrew Aficionada, that I've been neglecting of late. I sorry! I suggest you check out Twilight so you know what all the fuss is about and then join in on the fun. Then you can head on over to the LTT/LTR Forum. Forums are fun. The LTT/LTR Forum is the funnest! Join it! You'll lots of stuff, like this and this, over there. Ahem, yeah.

So I've made a few purchases of late. Anthropologie, of course! I'll be posting reviews of the items this weekend, I think. We are throwing a house party, and it is Mother's Day, but I'll squeeze in the time for you! And maybe, just maybe, I'll get some eBay items up. Been sorting through all my shtuff and realized I have some nice pieces from Anthro that just don't fit me anymore and were worn maybe a handful of times. You are so lucky!

Oh, and the little bro, aka Army Brat, is home on pre-deployment leave so I'm also spending some QT with him before he leaves, for a year. *cries* He has a lovely little blog that he's started as a way to keep all his peeps informed while he's away. New Girl Crush: Kristen Stewart

So, must forewarn all that I am kinda hyped up right now. I just saw Adventureland with some friends and it was really so much better that I was expecting. I knew I heard good things, but I wasn't sure what to expect. I know I wanted to see it more because of Kristen Stewart. Of course, that could be because of my new found infatuation with Twilight. Quite possibly. However! I have heard great things about Ms. Stewart long before Twilight, so I had a feeling I'd see a great performance. She did not disappoint. The entire movie is one of those movies you walk away from going, "Wow. Now this is why I love movies. This is the feeling I love to have when I've just seen something great."

Seriously.

Everyone in the film was great. It made me nostalgic for that time of my youth: the 80's. It was laugh out loud funny at many parts. And the performances rocked. I have no doubt that Kristen will be able to pull off the emotional turmoil needed for Bella in New Moon. I kinda already knew that knowing what I knew about the the types of roles Kristen has taken and likes to take. She truly is an amazing talent that I'm excited to see for many years (The girl just turned 19 yesterday. Still a baby!) It makes me even more excited. I actually want to rewatch Adventureland right now. So, please, go see it! You will have a blast.

On that note, welcome, Kristen. You are now holding the #1 position on my girl crush list. (And isn't it funny that most, if not all, of my girl crushes are fair-skinned, light-eyed, and brownish-reddish-haired. Yeah. My friend (Kristen, hehe) and I realized this about our lists tonight. And this could be why I keep wanting to dye my hair to that color and my stylist keeps telling me she won't do it. And now I reeeealllly want to! Gah!).

Go see Adventureland.

So I ended up buying this cardi from Anthro a few weeks ago and never posted on it. It was included in their newsletter about items with interesting things going on in the back. I was so unsure of it until I saw it in person. A sort of slouchy cardi, so I downsized to a small. I totally dig it. It's business in the front, and a party in the back. I've worn it a couple different ways. Since I'm so fair, I keep the bottom half dark and do a statementy necklace to bring some more color to my face. What do you think of it?

A Note On...My Sanity

Yeah, Hi.

So I said I'd be better and I haven't been. Seriously, ever been totally consumed with something and just cannot focus on much else? Well, that's been me for the past couple weeks. An innocent viewing of a movie turned into a obsession I haven't had to this degree since Dawson's Creek. Yeah, I know. That was pretty bad. Watching the show religiously, but it was the online involvement that turned my head inside out. Me, when I get obsessive, I look for anything and everything related to my obsession. Dawson's entailed me habitually visiting certain fan sites and message boards and reading fanfic with a voracious appetite that would not dissipate. It's all consuming, this kind of obsessive state of mind. My brother's laughing, but I really think he's concerned for my mental state at the moment, haha. And I know myself. This thing that's taken over has already dwindled a bit since I've just finished reading the books (So sad! It feels like Harry Potter all over again...), so I know I'm on my way to re-establishing normalcy in my routine. It didn't help that this hit at the same time that is the busiest time at work for me. Nuts!

On the flip side, isn't it great to be so involved, so passionate or focused on something and be that dedicated? I do. I just have a hard time finding the balance. I can look forward to obsessing for the next couple years until all the rest of the movies come out (New Moon out in Nov.; Eclipse set for next summer; no news on Breaking Dawn but, really, they can't not do that movie). Want to hear nuts? I already own the 2-disc DVD, but discovered a set of special feature videos on You Tube that I couldn't understand why I didn't have. Well, stupid me, I guess there's a special edition 3-disc set only at Target. I discovered this one night. So what do I do? I hit Target before work the next day to make sure I get a copy. Yeah, brother Pete was looking at me funny when I made my discovery and told of my plans. Yahuh.

So I did a vampire double-feature with a friend last weekend since she's never seen Twilight (I ended up giving her the 1st copy that I bought. Aren't I generous?). And so I added Let the Right One In into our night to make it so. A Swedish flick about a pre-teen vampire girl and the boy who befriends her. Wow. It was amazing. Some of the best cinematography I've seen. Prolly should have watched Twilight after it instead of the way we did it. A lot more creepy and gory than Twilight.

And I just got a set of books by another author I like, and these just so happen to be about vampires (not that I'll be reading them right now as I'm still in a hard-core Twi-mode. Re-reading the books. Yup).

I tell ya, vampires are on the brain right now! And it's all a total coincidence! I swear!

So, I hope I haven't scared anyone off. I have a feeling my blog friends will totally understand me, right? Right?! We all have our little obsessions and quirks. Heck, that's why most of us start these blog things anyway (here I steer you over to JCrew Aficionada and Effortless Anthropologie, for example; blogs about stores we love so much we blog about them daily; see what I mean?). Now, if anyone wants to come out of the "closet" about being a Twi-fan, I'm here to support you. And please know, I am NOT one of those crazed twi-hard fanatics doing ridiculously stupid things to make the rest of us 2nd-hand embarassed. Ugh. I shudder at that. If you want to have a pee-in-your-pants good read about anything Twilight related, head over to the Letters to Twilight blog run by some fabulous girls. It feels like home there right now, haha. We know we get a little nuts, but we're able to poke fun at ourselves at the same time. See the banner at right ------>. They also run Letters to Rob. Oh, and I discovered Lauren's Bite through LTT. The girl is hilariously funny. Especially with her misadventures of Pocket Edward posts. Although, he seems to be missing at the moment. Taken hostage. No joke. Read here.

So, I promise this blog will not turn into a Twilight only blog. I have many other things to write and obsess about. It's just, that's where my mind is right now, so you'll have to bear with me. And if you haven't discovered the amazingness that is Twilight, what are you waiting for? I'll be waiting with open arms to discuss it all when you are caught up. Hell, I've already converted THREE of my peeps. Yup. I AM the Master Manipulator. Really, they just knew attempts at resistence were futile. So now I have peeps in the real world to discuss all things Twilight rather than just my blog friends, haha.

Hi Hi!

I know, I haven't posted in almost a month. Internet's been on the fritz at home and I just wasn't inspired to write anything recently. Too distracted. Promise I'll be better. I'll be posting some more eBay items for auction prolly this weekend. Sure to be some Anthropologie in there. Can you guess what my current distraction is? Weeeell, the DVD just got released. I watched this movie over the weekend and am now in full-on obsession mode. Can you guess? YUP! It's Twilight!! Haha. I now own the film and am soon to own the books. I got the hardcover set of all 4 books coming from Barnes & Noble. Yeah, that and the eBay auction prepping is what I'll be doing this weekend. Fun times! Anthro Wishlist & Fab Find at Target

So, I skipped over to Target on my lunch yesterday because, as most of us know, the Alexander McQueen line was supposed to hit stores. Yeah, you think it was there? Nope! Seriously. I'm getting the impression that my local store tends to not get things or put them out late. They never even had a display for Hayden-Harnett. Just some random bags scattered here and there. Very willy nilly. Disappointing!

Anyway, I went to CS to ask if they knew anything about it, and of course they have no idea which way is up. I will just have to stalk the store until something pops up, kinda like Jacqueline had to do with Orla Kiely. That was pretty funny ;-). I'm not going to go nuts though because I realized that I'm only really interested in a few pieces (harness dress, cropped jacket, zig-zag one-shoulder dress). I'd rather check them out in store because previous designer lines were junior sized, so I'd need to try the pieces on first. I could order them online through AAA because of a 10% discount, but I'd rather see the pieces before buying.

So I nearly made it out of Target without buying anything. Nearly. Of course, I made a pit stop at shoes to see if there was anything new since my last visit. There was. And I bought one of said new items. For only 20 bucks! I really like these shoes so far, but keeping the tags on just in case. My shopping budget has practically dropped to almost nothing these days, so I have to be super careful. No more shopping binges at JCrew and Anthro :-(. So sad. I am keeping my eye on a couple items at Anthro and might use some of my tax refund toward a purchase. I keep envisioning sooo many outfits with 2 of my wishlist items, making them super versatile, therefore justifying the purchase. Of course ;-). Already planning lots o' Polyvore outfits!

The Target shoes I nabbed are below. I think they are very much in the spirit of (check out Gigi's "in the spirit of" posts) a pair of Frye heels I spotted at ShopBop. Anthro also has them in navy. Granted, Frye is quality leather that will last a long time, but I just can't spend the funds at this point. And I tend toward lower heels and flats, so not sure how many times I'd actually wear the heels (already tall at 5'8").

The shoes are by Mossimo. The color is a lovely sagey green. The heel height is a bit higher than I'd like (4.25), but I've gotten used to ones this high and the front does have a small cushioned platform (1/2"), adding to the comfort level. I bought my normal size 9 1/2. I could have gotten a 9, but I will be wearing these mostly when the weather is warm, so hot/swollen feet, hence a bigger size = more comfort. The ankle strap buckles with 2 metal prongs. I'll have to puncture a few more holes to pull the strap tighter for safety. It slips down my heel at this point. These seem like something you could see sold at Anthro. Very vintage inspired. Luv!

I have to say that I am super hyped right now. Watching the Oscars and they are pretty darn good this year! Have sat through the whole thing. And have no idea how I'm going to calm down and get to bed cuz I have to get up early to go to work! Gah! I just watched Kate Winslet give her acceptance speech and I was getting teary. So, so good. I love her! The whole thing is so, so good this year. I am very pleasantly surprised. And I am officially obsessed with Reese Witherspoon's dress. I love Anna. Her shows are always really fun and very detailed. She just exudes a happiness and carefree attitude about her that completely translate to the clothes. In keeping with her trademarks, Anna showed luxe, bohemian-gypsy (as I like to call it) looks in rich colors and textures. I especially like the azure blue/plum combo with some black thrown in. The tights were especially fun in a range of colors, patterns and textures. Love it all. I have a dress from Anthro that I think is Anna-esque (some of her stuff is actually sold there occasionally), and I totally pair it with some fun black textured/patterned or purple tights when I wear it. Really fun. So, I knew about this line because, duh, I shop at Anthro and read the labels. I didn't know that they considered it their "luxe" line. Perusing Racked NY just now, they had a post on the line's presentation today. You can read through yourself and see the pics. What I think is funny is this:

That said, the looks were rich and wearable, as they will actually be stocked at Anthropologie (with high price points) for Fall 2009.

Anthro's price points high? I mean, that's just ludicrous. ;-)

Hats, layers, color, boots and BELTS at marc by Marc Jacobs. At first, I was like "hmmmm." But I think I really dig it now. Deconstruct the outfits and you have some fun pieces. Keep it layered and tone it down a bit for the "real" world and you still have an interesting look. And most of all, Cinch It! I think almost every look was belted. Luv! I'll keep these in mind as inspiration for the fall.

Movie Review: Confessions of a Shopaholic & Others

So sad, dear readers. I skipped out late yesterday afternoon (day off from work, yay!) to see it with a friend as we were bored, and I was pretty disappointed in what I saw. I know I was excited and skeptical to see it, and I was right to have that skepticism. They just changed/adapted too much, and not in a good way. I know Disney bought the rights, but it still could have been "family friendly" and entertaining in a good way. This just wasn't. Ah well.

The army brat was home this weekend for a surprise visit, and I did manage to watch a movie with the fam the other night: Sunshine. Apparently, some people didn't like it. I leave you to make your own conclusion (i.e. don't read any reviews until you watch it!). I also watched Definitely, Maybe. I was really hesitant to see this as I wasn't sure how Ryan Reynolds would fair as a lead. Plus, the previews when the movie was out didn't make it that appealing. I was wrong! The army brat and I have similar tastes in music and movies and such, and he loved this movie. He actually had the DVD with him, so I set myself up in my room and watched. Luv! Granted, I am a romantic and like romantic movies, and this is one; but it was a good film. Miss Isla Fisher is in it and I was pleasantly surprised by her performance. I really like her in the movie. Could be I'm now on an Isla kick and that's why I spontaneously went to see Shopaholic. Definitely will be looking forward to seeing her in more roles; and I hope Shopaholic doesn't blacken her too much. I will say that the girl can get her zany on. She does some pretty wacky stuff in the movie. A bit over the top, but less crazy than Wedding Crashers.

The time has come. A serious financial situation (and the need to purge) has me looking to my closet to bring in some extra funds. Fashion Week starts tomorrow!

Or should we more appropriately call it Fashion Month. Anyway, Fashion Week for NYC starts tomorrow, coinciding with Valentine's weekend. Last year, you'd find me online constantly. Obsessively checking Style.com for page after page of runway updates. Not so this year! Because of an Internet crack down at work, many sites are now blocked for me, including Style.com. I'll be checking them at home this nice, LONG weekend though. Also, if you haven't heard (living under a rock?), the economy has hit the industry pretty hard. Designers are opting out of doing shows at the tents and are finding different venues or are simply just doing presentations. Scheduling for cities post-NYC has been a bit snarly, as well. Target, Again

Yeah, I know. I'm a little obsessed with Target. Popped in there today for just a couple things and got distracted. Again. The shoes were calling my name, but luckily I only tried them on and am waiting to purchase sandals for the upcoming season. Some really cute stuff. I did spy a couple things in clothing, like the blouse below.

I think I like it because it reminds me of the line Tucker by Gaby Basora. Really easy pieces in a variety of fun prints. All of Tucker's line is made from silk. This Target top, however, is good 'ole polyester. I figured as much being it's at Target. But I still like it. I tried on the large because they didn't have my normal medium and, of course, it was too big. The medium might be fine. It has a nice drape that'll be a good closet addition for spring/summer. Still thinking about it. I did snag this cute bag last week though. And because I couldn't find it online, please enjoy my [mediocre] photography skills.

I guess it reminded me of the Foley & Corinna City Tote. Also, the color is a light aqua/blue (trust me, very pretty) that I've started seeing for spring, especially at JCrew. Those pastel, light neutral colors tend to wash me out, so there won't be much for me this spring, at JCrew anyway (my wallet will thank me); but I can still update with accessories, like the bag.

Side note: Those who read this post might think I'm bag obsessed...because I am. However, I did come to my senses and returned two of the HH bags I talked about.

So as I was taking the photos of the bag, my cat, Sznurek (pron. sh-noo-rek; it means "little string"; long story), was hanging around. And then he started being cute, so I just had to take some photos.

I really need to take a video so you can see him in all his cuteness/psycho-ness and hear his annoying meowing. The boy has quite the personality. As it is, I was doing a photo session with him to which he gave me the dirtiest look.

Really? I'm in the middle of cleaning myself.
(Hence the leg in a weirdly flexible, yoga-like position.)

And then I just kept taking more and more as his annoyed meowing increased.

Seriously.

I just want to go outside!

And now I am exhausted. So I shall drink my Sleepytime Extra tea and bid you all goodnight.

Confessions of a Shopaholic (the movie, not me)

I feel I had to clarify that because some people might think we're talking about me. Yes, I have a slight problem with shopping, as I said. But not to the degree of Becky Bloomwood in the book series, now made into a movie. She's got a problem to the, like, nth degree.

Now if you're looking for something serious and literary, you won't find that here. The books are lighthearted and fun. I enjoyed them and sometimes re-read parts to get a laugh. The movie is coming out in about a week, Valentine's Day weekend to be exact. I wasn't sure I was happy with the casting decisions, but I may change my mind. I do like the actors that are in it, and I know the rights being sold means the production company can do whatever they want with adapting the books; but I do hope they do a decent job.

This one will have to be seen with some girlfriends at Lux Level at the movie theater. See, at Lux Level you sit in a separate section of the theater and are able to order food and drink, alcoholic drinks to be specific. The seats are big and comfy and it's really quite fun. I just went for the first time recently to see Gran Torino with Clint Eastwood. Great film.

Here's another wacky outfit that Isla wears in the movie. Styling look familiar? It's Patricia Field, the same costumer for Sex and the City, Ugle Betty and The Devil Wears Prada.

Where the Wild Things Are is a Movie!

So I just learned that Spike Jones has turned one of my favorite childhood books into a movie. And it's live action! So exciting! I wonder how dark it'll be. By the photos that have been floating around, I'm not so sure the movie will be as age appropriate for the kiddies as the book is. It's being released in October, so we'll see then.

NYC Fashion Week Changing Location?

The New York Times had an article yesterday about the possibility of Fashion Week moving from Bryant Park, where it's been for the past 15 years, to Lincoln Center beginning in 2010. However, Lincoln Center is under construction until 2011. So just how would they swing that? Who knows. I just hope this economic situation as righted itself by then and we have more designers showing on the runway rather than just doing a presentation. With everyone cutting costs this year, Fashion Week just won't be the same. Here's hoping the money is going toward the clothing, so maybe we'll get some great fall lines, at least.

Football Fiesta

So, I'm heading to a Super Bowl party tomorrow. Now, I don't really like football. Never have. I've had people explain it to me, but I don't think the rules ever stuck because I never cared to remember them. In one ear, and right out the other. Just not my thing.

However, a party with friends and food I'm always up for. Plus! The party has been made more fun with a "Wear Your Pajamas" theme. Since we here in New England are Pats fans, and they aren't in the Bowl this year, the hosts have come up with another way for us to enhance the fun factor. And I love a good theme party.

My brother and I would always add a theme to our parties as it just adds so much more to the party-going experience. We've done a hat themed party for our housewarming back when we shared an apartment. We did a No Pants party last winter just as a random idea. And it was in the middle of winter, so that was interesting. A friend, a guy friend, showing up in an ice skating costume was just priceless. Oh, yeah. It had sparkles, too.

Anyway, I'm bringing a couple food dishes to the party, so I'll be baking/cooking tomorrow morning. Kept it easy, yummy and fun, since it is a football party. At a friend's suggestion, I'm going to be making Brownie Footballs (ahem, Brownie Queen) and Roasted Shrimp with Cocktail Sauce. The brownie recipe was a great idea that I shall be putting my own twist on, and the shrimp is courtesy of the Barefoot Contessa and her new book, Back to Basics, which I picked up the other day with a gift card. I actually saw the episode on the Food Network that showed her making the shrimp and I was almost drooling. I am loving shrimp lately.

It'd be great to wear the apron I've been haunting at Anthro, but alas, it has not gone on sale yet, and I am not paying $38 for a small piece of fabric. Go on sale! It's super cute with owls all over it. I am infatuated with all things owl for a while now. I think it may have started when I worked at Anthro about a year ago, and they seemed to get tons of owl-related merchandise in the store. So I'd like the apron, please, and maybe this cute little dish towel, as well.

So I was checking in with Operation NICE, and Melissa has posted about a great project called the 29-Day Giving Challenge. The founder, Cami Walker, has gone one step further and challenged herself to reach 2,000 people with the project. I think this is a great idea. I'm a little hesitant to do it myself because I feel I might get stuck, but I think I might challenge myself to do it. In any case, please pass this along to anyone you know who might want to partake to help Cami Walker carry out her goal of reaching 2,000 people. The video below will explain a bit more about it. If only it was a leap year and there were 29 days in February it would be perfect! Even so, starting in February (this Sunday) and going through the whole month plus the 1st of March should work. Really? That's What You Have to Complain About?

While perusing Fashionista yesterday, I read about a blog called DABA (aka Dating a Banker Anonymous). Apparently, the girls involved are getting some kind of book deal as a result of this blog. Seriously?! I'm in shock that this thing actually exists. I'm also in shock that these girls are focusing on themselves in the situation when their SO (significant other) is in much worse shape. I read Lucky magazine, and turns out a former Lucky staffer, Dawn Spinner Davis, is in this group. What she says in the article is aweful.
Dawn Spinner Davis, 26, a beauty writer, said the downward-trending graphs began to make sense when the man she married on Nov. 1, a 28-year-old private wealth manager, stopped playing golf, once his passion. “One of his best friends told me that my job is now to keep him calm and keep him from dying at the age of 35,” Ms. Davis said. “It’s not what I signed up for.”

Really? Didn't you marry this guy, as in love, honor and cherish through sickness and death and anything in between? I mean, really?

Allez Target!

So I made a little stop a Target tonight that turned into a longer stop. As always. That store seriously sucks me in. You have a list (cereal). You head straight for that department. And all of a sudden, you find yourself stopped by many, many, things along the way.

For example, handbags. If you didn't know, Hayden Harnett has done a line of handbags for Target, in stores now. My local Target didn't have the normal amount of merchandise when the line was released, so I've been checking back periodically. I managed to snag the canvas and black hobos a couple weeks ago.

Tonight, I randomly spotted the black studded clutch and double-flap bag in brown (no longer available online, black is still there). Yoink! Totally been looking for these. (I don't have much hope I'll spot the umbrella, but then I didn't really look in that section. Doh!) I heart Hayden Harnett. I have a couple of their "real" bags and I luv 'em.

So that was score #1. Score #2 happened in the makeup section. Spying a new line, JK by Jemma Kidd, on an endcap, I paused. Her line seemed pretty cool. I snagged 2 eyeshadows in Vintage and Editor, and the Lip ID Color-Adapt lipgloss. The latter is a clear gloss that you put on and it adapts to your lip tone and changes color based on that. Fun!

The reviews seem good so I'm hoping it'll be worth it. And by worth it I mean, these producs aren't drugstore brand cheap. After JK, I moved onto Pixie. Standing there, I felt like I was standing in a Sephora. The product setup and price, it's not too different from the mecca of beauty products we know so well. But in a Target. We'll see. Hopefully if these lines do well, they'll stick around and I won't have to treck out to my nearest Sephora. So, Pixie. I really like this line so far. I only got a lipgloss, but a lot of the other products were very appealing. I got the Lip Blush in Faeire. I was looking for a product similar to Stila's Lip Glaze in Banana. I may have found it! I had the Stila gloss with me, so I held them up for comparison and might have found a match. Testing all products tomorrow!

Makeup Update 1/27:

Eyeshadows: Luv. Only used Vintage, but color and quality good. It's comparable to Stila's Kitten or Sun, which I love. A nice neutral with some shimmer that makes your eyes pop.

Adapt Lip Gloss: So fun. I put it on and my lips turned a subtle bubble gum pink color. I gave it to a couple co-workers and they each got different colors. After a little while it doesn't feel like you have any on, but looking in the mirror, I still had a gloss and color but lips didn't feel tacky. The color seems to stain your lips a bit so you don't need to reapply often. I added Rosebud Salve on top to keep moisture and shine.

Pixie Lip Gloss: Very nice. Like I said, the color is similar to Stila's banana, a slightly shimmery champagne color. A very nice neutral. Texture is not too tacky, where the Stila is a bit more so. There is also a tropical scent to it that was suprisingly welcome.

Overall, I give the makeup 2 thumbs up, 10 out of 10, 5 stars out of 5. Can't wait to try the other products. Go get some!

I just stumbled upon a blog completely devoted to the style and chicness of Copenhagen's cycling residents. So fab! Please check it out. And there are many other cities that are doing this very thing, including ones from my home country of Poland. I've added Krakow to my blogroll. Now I really want a vintage bike with a basket so I can cycle ever so chicly like this girl. And what she was looking at? Beautiful. I need to go to Denmark now.

Living in a Remodeling Zone

I was going to say "Construction Zone," but I guess the major construction is over. For now. I'm talking about the house I bought with my brother at the end of last summer. Life events, namely my father passing, prompted us to sell our parents' condo and buy a single family house in our names. Our Mom lives there with us, as she is unable to be alone right now. And most likely for the foreseeable future. Our other brother is "living it up" in the army. He's stationed at Fort Bragg in North Carolina right now, but we think he'll be heading to Iraq within the next few months. Scary.

Visiting St. Louis for boot camp graduation - Silly, silly boys

The house project has been a great distraction. We couldn't even move in when we bought it because of demo that needed to be done. 2 weeks of staying with family turned into 2 1/2 months. Living out of a suitcase was getting pretty old! We finally moved in the day before Halloween last year. And the work continues on. And on. And on.

My brother is project manager. He's pretty handy, so with help of family in the business and their contacts, we're getting it done. He took some photos of the house before and during some of the major remodeling. Total mess! I'll be posting some of the before and after photos as we progress further. It's seriously amazing what we did to the bathroom and kitchen already. They were the 2 worst rooms in the house and now they're my favorite. In the meantime, check out the new bar stools we just got from Target. Yay! for breakfast/cocktail bar!

I'm getting more into She & Him, the musical duo she's in. Can I say how fab her voice is? If you've seen Elf, then you know she exhibits some of her talent in the scene where she's showering and Will Ferrell freaks her out by joining her. Anyway, anyway, she's got a great voice. Like one of the old singer standards, such as Billie Holliday or Ella Fitzgerald or Nina Simone. I love them. I also just randomly watched Failure to Launch on TV this past weekend and discovered she's in it. Yay! Of course, she's her cute, hipster, aloof Zooey-self in it, which made me love her more.

If you know Zooey, then you might know she has a sister, Emily. Emily is on the show Bones on FOX. I never really watched it before, but I've seen some episodes recently and I'm getting hooked! Maybe it's the attraction of David Boreanaz. I mean, I did religiously watch Buffy and then he moved onto Angel, which I didn't watch so faithfully, but it was still great. Emily and David's (aka Bones and Booth) chemistry is so cute to watch. You just know the show's going to end when they put those two together. I hope. cross fingers

Zooey's working on the music gig and her film 500 Days of Summer just premiered at Sundance to great reviews. I guess it doesn't come out for the rest of us until July. Go figure.

If you get Domino magazine (like I do), then you also saw her in the latest issue showing us her fabulously styled music/hang out space.

She's also just done an ad campaign for Oliver Peoples spring/summer 2009. So very retro and cute. Just like Zooey!

AND! I just read that the girl is engaged! To this guy, right here (the one in the glasses).

So, this is my first foray into the blogging world. You can thank my brother for giving me the bright idea. Thanks, bro! Just another avenue of time suckage! No, really. I will try to make this thing I do here somewhat interesting. Please forgive me if you get bored or whatever, but then, you can just click on out! I'm going to try to make this a diary/journal of sorts for myself. Something I was never big on or consistent with in my life. Maybe something interesting will come of it. It'll at least get me to be more creative, post photos (from a camera that I have barely used recently), share recipes, talk about my crazy shopping problem, my love of fashion, etc., etc., etc. I tend to be long-winded, or as I like to call it, detailed.
